When Child Support is Too Much: Reconsideration Options

If you were ordered to pay child support and your financial situation has changed, you have the option to take the case back to court and have your support amount reconsidered. Before you risk falling far behind in your support payments and facing enforcement actions, you should talk with a child support lawyer about how to have the amount re-evaluated. After seeking a reduction myself in the past, I've learned a lot about how to make it work. I hope that the information about my experiences helps you to understand what you can do about having your support order reconsidered.

2 Things To Put In Your Will

Thinking about the future and planning on what will happen after you die isn't anything that people really want to do, however, it's something that needs to be done. You need to make sure that you have good plans for whatever comes. It will make it easier on your family after something has happened to you. No one will have to worry about what you wanted to be done or what needs to be done. When you start planning, one of the first things you need to do is to have a will, especially if you have a family. So, what should your will contain?

Guardian Arrangements

You need to make sure that you have set up guardianship arrangements for your children. Ideally, you have set up a first choice and an alternate choice, just in case your first choice isn't able to do it for some reason. Your will should list both choices in your will. You should also make sure that you list the reasons that would have your children go to the alternate choice versus your primary choice. For example, those reasons could be something like the couple you chose as your first choice has had children of their own and may not be able to add in the responsibility of more children.

Trustees

If your child is still a minor when you die, they likely can't access any monetary inheritance that you leave for them. So, you need to make sure that there is someone set up who can handle the finances that you leave behind. It could be that the person you choose for that is the same person who has physical guardianship of your child. However, that isn't necessary, especially if the finances are going to be tricky, or you have set up a trust for your child. In that case, you may want to set up a trustee who can handle all those choices for you. A trustee will make sure that your child or their guardians have an allowance to take care of your child, while still managing the rest of the inheritance to make sure that there is money after they turn of age.

Planning for your future may seem boring or like something you really don't want to do. However, it's always better to have those plans in place than it is to leave everyone scurrying around after your death, trying to figure out what you want.
